Import Salesforce Custom Fields to Avochato

Add custom field data from your Salesforce account to your Avochato account

Introduction

You have rich history of customer data living in your Salesforce org, and keeping your custom data in sync with Avochato is critical for relevant interactions with your customers. With the new "Sync Custom Fields" button on the Avochato → Salesforce Setup page, you can now easily sync Salesforce custom fields into your Avochato Account (and then automate the data sync using List View Syncing).

How to use

Head over to the Integrations section on the left sidebar, and click on the Settings button in the Salesforce section. If you Salesforce org isn’t connected yet, make sure to connect to production or sandbox by following section A in this guide.

Head over to the Integrations section and click the Settings button to access the Salesforce Settings page.

Navigate down the Settings page until you see the Object Type section along with the Custom Field Sync subsection:

That shiny “Sync SFDC <Object Type> Fields Now” button will kick off the custom field metadata sync to auto-create the matching Avochato Contact custom fields. The Object Type is based on the object type selected (the “Default” behavior points to a Salesforce Contact, but that can be adjusted to fit your needs).

When clicking the button, it’ll show you all the Salesforce fields that will be created as Avochato Contact custom fields.

Prompt to confirm the standard and custom fields that will be created on the Avochato Contact

Note that Salesforce Standard and Custom Fields that haven’t already been mapped to Avochato custom fields will be eligible for syncing. Managed Package fields will need to be created manually (and you can do so following the instructions here).

Considerations

Review the custom field creation behavior below, to ensure you’re creating and syncing the custom fields as expected:

  • The default Salesforce Object used to copy over the custom fields is “Contact”. If you update the Object Type to be a different object (and Save), then you’ll be able to sync the custom fields from that specified object.

  • Only fields that are not already mapped to Avochato will be synced.
  • Any Managed Package fields will need to be created manually as Avochato custom fields.
  • The created custom fields in Avochato will automatically have a two-way sync setting on that field, so that changes in Salesforce will sync to Avochato, and vise versa. You can adjust the sync settings per custom field by going to Avochato -> Settings -> Custom Fields.
  • You can run this sync any time you want to add new custom fields in Avochato based on Salesforce new (or previously unsynced) custom fields.
  • The Sync Custom Fields button will only attempt to map custom fields that haven’t been mapped previously. If a field is already mapped to an Avochato custom field, it’ll be ignored (no duplicate custom fields in Avochato 🚀)

Further Customizations

Head over to the Custom Fields page by going to Avochato -> Settings -> Custom Fields to see the custom fields and manually adjust naming, mappings, and sync behaviors. The default sync behavior on these newly created custom fields allows for a two way sync between Salesforce and Avochato. See this help article on the different sync settings available per custom field.
